Forrest Gump

Film Essay: Forrest Gump

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. In Forrest Gump that is exactly what it is like. Tom Hanks played Forrest Gump, a man born in Mobile, Alabama and below the average education level. Robin Wright Penn played Jenny, Forrest’s long time friend with many life changes. These two give birth to a movie that many will love. The music identifies what mood the movie is going through. The special effects are good for the excitement. The acting gave the characters life. This is great movie for the family.
The music sets you in a mood for the moment being played out. Since Forrest and Jenny are good friends so they have a certain type of feeling for each other and the music displays that. In the army they are supposed to have explosive, bad type of feeling, so the music played to be hardcore. The music to start the movie was peaceful; they played the same music to end it off with. To see the movie, it was a great way to start and end, so you know the atmosphere of the film. The music is a good background for the movie to have.
The special effects were a good edition to the movie and put more definition to it. One good effect that put an old spin in it was putting him into old films. They added him into many of them with known teams and presidents to make it seem like he was there. While he was in situations the rain was a big deal as he told it. It was special effects to make the rain go in many ways to show. In the battle field while in Vietnam, the film had to show bombs, bullets, and explosions for their conflict there. They had to make it seem like the bullets were just flying past and the bombs were going off by sight. The special effects make it good for the movie to be real, and they make a good job of it.
The acting in the movie it a great film that everyone will love. Robin Wright Penn was the actress that played Jenny. She played an important part in the movie as Forrest’s friend that goes through a lot in her life time. Penn made a good actress by playing as every mood like a typical person of that type would. Gary Sinise is the actor that played Lt. Dan. Lt. Dan comes in the movie at about the middle of it and has a great effect as he later becomes a good friend to Forrest. Tom Hanks was the actor that played as Forrest Gump. He was the main character and focus of the movie. He did a great job as acting as a southern type of accent man that only sees things as it comes to him. The acting was great and a main point to make this an extraordinary movie. The movie was a great film and couldn’t have been without the music mood settings, the key special effects, and the great acting. This movie exemplifies that you can go above and beyond your limits, which is a good message for everyone.

Women in the media's eyes

Most of the pictures of women are made out to be that they are supposed to be beautiful and easy. They said that the ads make the women out to be objects and not people. They said that the ads have it that you’re not beautiful if you do not have big breast. Ads make more ads with women then they do men. Advertising women and men and not their product is wrong.I think that the ads shouldn’t make women out to be objects. They said that they don’t do that to men as much but it is still wrong to do it to any gender. The people even have the children set up as the girls are supposed to look up to the boys. They also say that the ads as well as commercials are getting to pornographic. They also now have many ads running every single day. I think that if ads will just advertise there product and not women and men it will be better. A few studies have found that exposure to television and movie violence in childhood is related to increased aggression years later, but further research is needed in this area. If that is true, then the sexist behavior that is in almost all advertising kids are going to start believing that way as well. We see many movies each year where the female characters are there solely to support and do things for the male characters. Magazines often show only pieces of a woman, such as her legs, or torso so that women are seen as pieces of a human being, reduced to only body parts, which are usually hyper sexualized for male to buy the product or for there enjoyment. Among the highest paid professionals (doctors and lawyers) women only make from 58-76% of men’s average pay and they make up about a third of the workers in these jobs. In this situation, you can only hope that things get better.

Violence does not have a good effect on people

Violence is having a bad effect on people. The media is letting the violence go on daily. Everyday in the news there is always violence. The media is not making it better. You can see it on almost every channel. Some body getting killed, robbed, raped, and brutally beat. Television in general is giving people subliminal messages on the daily. It is giving people stereotypes to go by. It is giving people bad solutions to small problems. In lots of cases kids think that the only way to taken serious is using violence. Even in an older generation violence is a common use. The road that is being taken for our television, and the violence that it portrays, is wrong. In today’s youth violence is common to deal with on a regular basis. In many of the top watched shows is even violence or comedy. Nearly 75 percent of violent scenes on television feature no immediate punishment for or condemnation of violence. 61 percent of television programs contain some violence, and only 4 percent of television programs with violent content feature an "antiviolence" theme. If the anti-violence theme becomes more in television, it might end up having a good effect on some of the youth. If the shows become a little less violent or if some violent people have consequences, then it could have a better chance of the upcoming violence in the media. Some statistics show that the way that shows are going, the violence will go up dramatically. Only 16 percent of violent programs feature the long-term, realistic consequences of violence. Researchers have found that children are more physically and verbally aggressive immediately after watching violent television and movies. Since it is having such a bad effect on kids more than adults, it is more important to save the children rather than taking more time on the adults that may not be able to save. The television should have at lease more than 16% of the shows that have a better or real consequence of violence.

Game violence isn't bad, it is just how you use it.

Media Violence is usually a bad thing। With game violence it’s a different thing। It is made to give entertainment on something you might not want to do. On some shooting games or action adventure games they give you control to do as you want. They are giving you a feel on fantasy. Others set you up on want you should do and give you real effects. When some one is playing a game, they have enough knowledge to know it is not real life. If they play violent games they know that they are playing it. The games do not tell the player to go and be crazy on the streets. The people put it in their mind to go out in do it. The creators make games about what they see are selling the most. Since some of the highest selling games are violent, they are going to make theirs’ violent if not more violent. The main issue is the people who are imitating a fictional game. The violence in the games is also seen differently on other genders or other ethnicities. In some people’s minds, they think that someone should act as they are portrayed in the media, like games, and they do as so. Different people have different affects from violence that is in games. Some know how to handle it, while others can not keep control of what is real and what is not. With game violence, it’s not forced on you like movies. On certain games they actually give you consequences for doing real life things wrong. On games like Grand Theft Auto if you shoot a policeman on assault them the police will come after you, which is a good example for people not to do that. It should also be common sense that if you die, you will not come back to life. Game violence is not as bad as you would think.
